RECOVERY WALK 18 AUGUST
QUAY TO RECOVERY, PLYMOUTH
Plymouth drug and alcohol charity Broadreach House, in partnership with Plymouth Service Users’ Representative Forum, is holding the first South West Recovery Walk on Saturday 18 August. It is short notice so move quickly!
Broadreach CEO Gina Dormer explained that “The purpose of the walk is to celebrate the achievements of people who have overcome addiction, and to show that recovery is possible.
“Drug and alcohol addiction are things that touch the lives of people every day. We hope that, by joining together and celebrating publicly, we will diminish some of the stigmas and misconceptions about addiction and recovery – and give hope to people still battling with substance misuse. We will also be remembering people lost through their struggles with addiction."
Surf coordinator Tracy Parker highlighted that “This is a unique opportunity to bring recovery onto our streets. We are the faces of your shop assistants, school teachers, doctors and nurses and we want the event to show the joy of lives reclaimed and to celebrate the healing within individuals, families and communities.
"The event is open to everyone. We hope that people from all walks of life will be involved. Addiction can affect everyone and this is a time for individuals and their family, friends and supporters, to walk together and celebrate being in recovery.”
The Recovery Walk is supported by Plymouth’s Drug and Alcohol Action Team and agencies such as Devon and Cornwall Constabulary and the National Treatment Agency.
