Onwards and Upwards
Every human being does their best at any given time. Their best. If you’ve made certain decisions in the past that later on turned out to be mistakes, you might be beating yourself up about it for a long time. Most of us do. We keep on looking back, replaying the moment in our minds, regretting the move we’ve made, blaming ourselves, and even questioning our sanity sometimes….
STOP LIVING IN THE PAIN NOW!
Although it’s a very common practice in the mankind world, we need to understand that it’s not serving us, and we just can’t change the past. I once read that past is like a dead cat- no matter how many times you poke it or even kick it, it won’t come back to life. Past is gone, and even reliving the situation is not accurate anymore, it’s done from the perspective of ‘now’. I used to study different therapies, however, I do mainly Coaching these days. In coaching, we don’t go back to the past to analyze it, we rather focus on the future. The only reason to go back in time is to look for the resources that have worked for us in the past, or to learn from the past, so called, mistakes, and move on. There’s no need to dwell in it for too long, to relive the pain again and again, and suffer. Failures in life are inevitable, but suffering is unnecessary really. So just stop looking back beating yourself up. You did your best at that time. Don’t you waste any more time on things you just can’t change.
WE ALL MAKE BAD DECISIONS (even the smartest people on this planet do). Every single person screwed up sometime in their life. Blaming yourself is not helping anyone. Get productive with your inner talk! How many times did you get it right?
IT DIDN’T COST YOU LIFE, you are still here! Make it all worth it NOW. Learn from your past, and make your future brighter because of it. Make the experience play out FOR YOU, not AGAINST YOU! What good has come out of it? What is the gift hidden in it, the blessing in disguise? Some people didn’t make it because of a second of distraction behind the wheel. YOU DID! Grab the wheel of your life firmly in your own hands, and claim your POWER back!
BE GRATEFUL! Instead of focusing on what you’ve lost, put your attention on what you still have in your life. Obsessing about the things that are gone won’t make you happy again, being grateful for the things you still have, will. I loved a story about Gandhi and his ability to let go of his lost shoe, and his fab instinct reaction to do something else instead- May you want to read it, I wrote a blog about it, you can find it here.
IF YOU ERASE YOUR PAST MISTAKES, YOU ERASE A PART OF YOURSELF– said Luis CK once, and how right was he?! Wouldn’t you be a different person today hadn’t you gone through your turmoil and teachings? You can’t go back and fix your mistakes, but if you could, you’d erase also a big part of who you are today, and the confidence, richness, depth of your personality gained from it. Our character is rooted as much in mistakes as it is in achievements. Matthew Hussey says that if you “take away the trauma, you take away the treasure… the things that make you, you!” On top of that, your past mishaps determine not only who you’ve become, but also who you will be. Accept your flaws, and be who you’ve always deserved to be!
YOUR SOUL IS DESPERATE TO BE LOVED….. BY YOU!!! Stop loathing and bullying yourself, you wouldn’t do that to a person you LOVE! Love who you are today, your complete YOU, with mistakes and all. Stop analyzing what you can’t change, drop that heavy baggage, and use the energy to sprint into the future lighter, smarter, and better than ever before! I’ll be cheering for you on the way! Live with a grateful heart and a passionate mind.
