Action on Addiction recently hosted a seminar presented by Bill White, a leading advocate of recovery communities. Jacquie Johnston-Lynch of Sharp Liverpool was so ‚Äúenamoured and motivated‚ÄĚ by White‚Äôs work that she has begun practical steps of developing a vibrant recovery community in Liverpool. This is coming to fruition this year.
‚ÄúLiverpool has a huge treatment system which offers huge choice. This sometimes has its drawbacks as it is hard to navigate, but its strength is that there are now real options on the table for people,‚ÄĚ she explained.
‚ÄúOrganisations such as Park View, Spider, Independence Initiatives, Alternatives and Together Women all offer great services ‚Äď so much so, that it is now recognised that Liverpool is leading the way in terms of what has been described by National Treatment Agency regional director Mark Gilman as a ‚Äėrecovery revolution‚Äô.‚ÄĚ
The fellowships of Narcotics and Cocaine Anonymous are growing at a rapid rate in Liverpool, even faster than in London, per head of population. Sharp Liverpool’s building is home to over 20 meetings a week outside of treatment programme hours.
